The overturning calculator is designed to assess the stability of various structures and objects under lateral loads. These may include wind loads, physical impacts on the structure, or loads associated with operation. This tool allows for calculations for different types of structures, such as supports, foundations, slabs, columns, and retaining walls, helping to ensure the safety and reliability of constructions.
The primary principle of the calculation involves comparing two moments — the resisting moment and the overturning moment. If the overturning moment exceeds the resisting moment, the structure loses stability and may overturn. The online calculator will assist you in calculating overturning stability for various structural elements, such as billboards, fences, walls, and other objects.
Instructions for using the calculator:
- Select the scheme for calculating the foundation or structure.
- Fill in the "Loads" field by specifying the load parameters (point load, distributed along the length, or over an area).
- Indicate the masses of the support, foundation, and soil in the respective fields.
- Enter the dimensions of the structure based on the selected scheme, providing all data in millimeters.
- Press the "Calculate" button to obtain the result.
The calculation results will display two moments: the resisting moment and the overturning moment. If the resisting moment is less than the overturning moment, the structure may lose stability. To ensure safety, it is recommended to conduct an analysis considering a safety margin.
Notes:
- The mass of the support is the mass of the structure above the foundation level.
- The mass of the soil is the mass of the soil located above the foundation.
- If the resisting moment is less than 1.5 times greater than the overturning moment, the system will indicate that the structure is stable but requires an additional safety margin.
- The center of gravity of the support coincides with the geometric center of gravity of the rectangular area described around it.
